There comes a point in the life of every charity when it must decide whether to stand still or take the next step forward.
For Safe Rescue, that moment has now arrived.
When our current hub was purchased almost nine years ago, our dream was to create a dedicated rescue and rehoming centre—a place where rescued dogs could begin their journey to a new life, volunteers could become part of that journey, and adopters could meet the dogs waiting for their forever homes.
Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, that vision cannot be realised at our current location.
Rather than seeing this as the end of a dream, we have decided to make it the beginning of a new one.
Over the past nine years, Safe Rescue has achieved something remarkable.
Despite operating from a small hub and an incredible network of foster homes, we have rescued and rehomed between 300 and 400 dogs every year. Thousands of dogs have been given a second chance because of the dedication of our volunteers, fosterers, supporters and adopters.
We could never have achieved this without you.
However, our current model has reached its limits.
The rescue has grown beyond what our existing facilities can comfortably support, and too much of the day-to-day operation relies on a handful of people. That isn’t sustainable, and it isn’t the secure future we want for the dogs who depend on us.
As trustees, we have a responsibility not only to care for the dogs in our rescue today, but to ensure Safe Rescue will still be here many years from now for every dog we have ever rehomed, and for the thousands still waiting for help.
That is why we have made a bold decision.
We are launching our biggest project ever: creating a permanent Safe Rescue Rehoming Centre.
Our vision is to find a suitable property, ideally one that already has the necessary permissions for kennel use, and transform it into a rescue centre that will secure the future of Safe Rescue for generations to come.
Imagine a place where:
- rescued dogs can receive expert care while waiting for their forever homes;
- adopters can meet several suitable dogs in one visit;
- volunteers can help with walking, enrichment and socialisation;
- specialist behavioural dogs have the facilities they deserve;
- cats can also be rescued and cared for;
- the rescue is no longer dependent on one person, but supported by a sustainable team for decades to come.
To make this vision a reality, our initial fundraising target is £1 million to purchase and establish a suitable property.
It is an ambitious goal—but so was rescuing thousands of dogs when Safe Rescue first began.
We are not asking one person to give £1 million.
We are asking thousands of people to become part of something extraordinary.

We are incredibly grateful that our friends at Dog Rescue Norway have already pledged their support by donating €5,000 to help launch this campaign, with further support planned as they continue their own fundraising.
This is only the beginning.
Over the coming months we will share more about our plans, our fundraising progress, and the type of property we hope to find.
Together, we can build something that will protect thousands of dogs—not just today, but for generations to come.
